Two landlord companies, Valbond Management and sister company Holbond were prosecuted by the HSE at Westminster Magistrates Court after they failed to arrange gas safety checks at a block of flats in Hampstead, north London.
The HSE found gas boilers which had not been maintained regularly and had concealed flues and another property which had a flue joint that had come apart in a void resulting in spillage of combustion products.
Valbond was fined £28000 plus £432 in costs. Holbond was fined £20000 plus £432 in costs.
The HSE stated that the tenants were lucky to escape serious harm and that the companies fell well below acceptable standards.
